The Iron Curtain Symbolized the ideological fighting and physical boundary dividing Europe into two parts from the end of WWII in 1945 until the end of the cold war. Both sides developed their own international economic and military alliances. Physically, the iron curtain took the shape of border defences. Most notable border was marked by the Berlin wall served as a symbol of the curtain as a whole. Events that demolished the Iron curtain started in discontent in Poland. Romania was the only country in Europe to violently overthrow its communist regime.
